About The Ember
Our Story & Vision
- Ember, in Hebrew means "appointed by God." An ember, in the traditional sense, is a piece of wood or coal that continues to burn after a fire has burned down, but it can burn as bright and as hot as the fire that created it. With regards to love, an ember is passion that remains and cannot be killed with time.
- Growing up a "coal truckers' daughter," every year my father Raymond (who passed in 2007 when he was just 57) and my beautiful Christian mother June brought our family to the Smoky Mountains to enjoy the beautiful scenery and to make lasting memories. My daddy is now buried in these majestic mountains, but his love and the memories that my family created are forever in my heart. My husband and I now bring our kids to visit their pawpaw's grave, and they too fell in love with the area. Our dream to build our very own Smoky Mountain home nearly came to an end after a long unsuccessful search for our perfect spot turned up nothing. Things took a funny turn when I prayed before daylight one morning for God to give me a sign, before we give up. With a cup of coffee in hand, I opened my laptop for the day and "ding," a notification popped up for a property on Vixen Run in Gatlinburg! "Vixen," is what my husband lovingly calls me, so I thought..."is this my sign?! " Chris and I made it to the property by sunrise to discover a patch of land that was kissed by fire and charred trees. The spot had come available as a result of the 2017 fires that ravaged the Great Smoky Mountains. All that remained from the previous home was rubble (that we built a memorial wall in the back from) a concrete retention wall, and miraculously an old wooden fence. Regardless of the property's condition, we hugged, laughed, and I cried knowing that we had found our very own "ember" in the timbers of Gatlinburg. After 3 long years of depleting much of our savings, and pouring our hearts and souls into the property, we are humbled and grateful to share "The Ember" with your precious family.
